Da`wah Center-Main Street View
The front of the building is
reminiscent of ancient Greek colonnaded architecture. The ex-Houston
National Bank is one of four banks once stood on the corners of Main
Street and Franklin; only three of these historical landmarks is
standing today. |

Prayer
Hall
The prayer hall area can easily accommodate 1200 people for prayers. On
the right side of the picture stands the [mín
baàr] a wooden platform hand carved in Egypt. It is simply a
raised area for the [I maám], leader of prayer, to address
the worshipers during Friday prayers. This piece of art is reminiscent
the [mámlook] Islamic era; Muslim rulers of Egypt from the
13th to the 16th century. Attached to the right of the [mín
baàr] is a wooden panel of Egyptian mosaics. |
